Several years ago these two lovely gents attended a dinner party as single men. The host honestly wasn't scheming on the night but seeing the chemistry between them was delightful. They soon became close friends and a couple fairly soon after. Ernesto hails from México where quite fortunately parts of the country were beginning to allow for the solemnisation of same sex couples. Australia had been struggling with the idea that two people who were not man and woman could enter into a committed legal relationship. They made the decision to travel back to México to marry in front of the relatives there. Of course not wanting to have their Aussie families feel left out they recreated the Méxican wedding here in Australia. The ceremony was based on a mix of pre-Hispanic tradition and old Celtic ones to honour both their heritages.
Using the services of De Corella Events at a beautiful country property in the Byron Hinterland in Northern NSW called Country Castle all the Aussie friends and families were joined by Ernesto's parents to celebrate the union of the two love birds.
As a good friend of both men I was honoured that they asked me to do their Aussie wedding photos which we did on two occasions - first on Sydney Harbour around sunset and then on the Aussie wedding day.
As of 9 Dec 2017 their marriage is now recognised internationally due to the changes in Australian marriage law brought about by the overwhelming support of the Australian population.
